MACKAY is about to be flooded with some famous Australians who are coming to town for the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition (QME).
Cowboys captain Jonathan Thurston, rock legend Angry Anderson, dual league star Wendell Sailor and fast bowler Jeff Thomson are four high-profile Australians who will add celebrity pizzazz to the technological innovations on show at the expo.
The bi-annual expo is on at the Mackay Showgrounds from Tuesday to Thursday. The event gives mining-related businesses the chance to showcase their services and products.
Dual rugby international and local, Wendell Sailor, will host QMEs Night to Remember industry social networking event at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre on the exhibitions opening night on Tuesday.
Sailor, who represented Australia in both Rugby League and Union, is now focused on a media career.
Meanwhile, Jeff Thommo Thomson, one of the fastest ever test cricket bowlers, will be on the Steel Blue work footwear stand on Wednesday. Thomson took 200 test wickets in a career that included 51 tests and his opening partnership with fellow fast bowler, Dennis Lillee, who is also an ambassador for Steel Blue, was one of the most fearsome in test cricket history.
Rose Tattoo front man Angry Anderson will be on site for most of QME, manning the Blundstone safety and work wear stand.
He will meet and greet visitors to the stand, pose for photos and sign souvenirs.
Professional Rugby League player and North Queensland captain Jonathan Thurston will make a similar appearance on the Autocorner Fleet Solutions stand between 9am and 11.30 am on Tuesday.
A two-time Dally M Medal winner, three-time State of Origin Man of the Match, and Wally Lewis medallist, Thurston has also represented Queensland and Australia and has been described as the greatest Origin half-back of all time.
The QME will offer a wide range of goods and services with more than 500 exhibitors.
